Gmail Settings Redesign

An independent UI Design case study

UI | Information Architecture | Prototyping

Challenge:

How can I redesign the Gmail settings page using Figma to improve usability?

How can I design a solution in under 10 hours while maintaining quality?

Goal:

  • Improve usability on the existing UI

  • Work efficiently to create a deliverable that does not sacrifice quality and outcomes

To explore my process of redesigning the UI, you can view it all in this Figma file. โ†๐Ÿ‘€

You can also interact with a clickable prototype. โ†๐Ÿ‘ˆ

For a quick reference, here is a summary of the outcome โคต

Outcomes ๐ŸŽ

This UI redesign of the Gmail settings page reduces cognitive load by:

  1. allowing users to know where to look and what is important vs. supportive,

  2. increasing accessibility through less visual overwhelm and including visual icons, and

  3. allowing users to locate specific settings faster.

What next? ๐Ÿงญ

I would want to know: did we move the needle?

In order to test and validate the impact of these changes, I would want to define specific metrics that we can track over time to compare with previous usability metrics to show if these designs were successful.

  • Usability tests with benchmarking metrics

  • Monitor in-platform user sessions on the Settings page and use tension metrics to compare to previous user behavior
